Notes on Sanitation

In an emergency or disaster, there is nothing better than a few simple hygiene items such as a comb, toothbrush, razor, shampoo to boost morale. Small versions of these can fit into a pack easily. Bathroom needs and laundry needs are very essential to keep the spread of germs and disease at a minimum. A port-a-potty is a must. A luggable lou or bucket toilet is very handy. It is inexpensive, light weight and portable. Supplies are stored inside until ready to use. They are lined with garbage bags can be used with sanitizing chemicals or even kitty litter. Your household toilet can be converted into a permanent port-a-potty as well. Just empty your toilet bowl and securely duct tape a garbage bag to it. It then may be transported in a bucket for proper disposal. It is very important to keep hands and water clean during an emergency. In many cases, more deaths have occurred after a disaster because of poor sanitation that with the disaster itself. Soap, hand sanitizers and disinfectant wipes should always be available. Please see the TACDA sanitation article at this web blog for more detailed information.
